Well, a high PR is one of the many factors that help us to outrank your competitors, and by saying this, we can define that the higher your PR is, the easier will be for you to achieve top position for your desired terms.

How do we increase our PR ? Well, initially we need to have other High PR websites giving us some of their “Google Juice”.

What is “Google Juice”

Google Juice is the ethereal substance which flows between web pages via their hyperlinks (in both directions!).
Pages with lots of links to them acquire much Google Juice

The more Google Juice you have the more Google PR your website will acquire, this is based on the way Google Algorithm was designed.

So try to keep up with me here:
The core Google Page Rank algorithm “distributes” it’s established PR across all of the outbound links. Put differently, if you had a web page with a PR8 and had 1 link on it, the site linked to would get a fair amount of PR value or Google Juice. But, if you had 100 links on that page, each individual link would only get a fraction of the value.”

Let me give you a perfect example:

Example No 1 About Google Juice .

Let’s say that your business is a restaurant, and one day Paris Hilton arrives to your restaurant. The arrival or Paris Hilton in your restaurant, for sure is going to put your restaurant on the map, and almost certainly that publicity will bring some traffic to your restaurant and you will increase your reputation.

Now, we know that Paris Hilton, may not be a top cuisine expert, and in fact she visits almost all the high class restaurants in the world, just to create buzz and get the media writing about her.

So the fact that Paris Hilton visited your restaurant is going to help you, but that doesn’t mean it is enough to guarantee your restaurant success for the next 5 years is it? Well, we can call Paris Hilton a website with a PR 5 or 6…

Now, let’s presume that instead of Paris Hilton, you get a visit of the Queen of England with all her Royal crew…

What  difference will that make? Do you think you will get a higher Authority than with a visit of Paris Hilton? - For sure!

Why? Because the Queen of England, barely visits commercial restaurants, and that’s why her visit “means more” than a visit of Paris Hilton.

So if you get an inbound link from the White House, from CNN or from Harvard University, you will get that “Google Juice” back to your site.

Now this is something very important

The more links you send from your site, the more juice your site is giving: and the more difficult it is to have authority if you easily give links away all the time.

Why is this so important?
Well, when I’m building my own sites, in the first 6 months I don’t link to any other site, that is not part of my own network. This is because I simply don’t want to lose any authority I may build and I prefer the Google Juice, floating in the limits of my own sites.

This brings us to the first PRACTICAL TRAFFIC ACTION you need to do.

If your website is linking to a lot of websites, stop it today. Especially stop linking out to smaller sites than you.

I know that you have considered many times the strategy of “exchanging links” as a smart way to go. But in fact exchanging links is a very long process, that will steal a lot of time from you and it is very difficult to control once you have many links along the way.

How do people exchange links? Usually by sending an email to the webmaster of the website which they want to exchange with. Then, they exchange information about the links to add, put the other persons website link in their site and then wait for the other person to comply and put their link in their website. Then, after that they have to regularly watch to see if their link is still there over the months to come.

Are you kidding me? Are you willing to go through all the process?

- No thanks!

I’m a bit busy trying to build my business and I don’t have time to email 100 people every day, asking to exchange links.

In our goal of marketing websites properly, we are going to work on building traffic without “spending all day” in useless tasks, and without losing time in frustrating endeavors.

That’s why my first advice for any beginners is  you to remove every link that leaves your website that has no serious relevance over the site, this means:  Only leave the links where you created a proper partnership. Don’t be scared, go ahead and remove any other links.

Why are we doing this? Because our strategy during this course will be: to build one way links back to your site.

So that is the first step… that is a pretty easy step.

The second step is to get inbound links from Reputable and High Authority websites.

These sort of websites are, government organizations, education centers (school, universities) or usually education agencies or scientific institutes.

I know you must be thinking: Come one! How do you expect me to get inbound links from these sites?

Well, it is not impossible, just think about this:

Every town in Australia has a town hall, and every town hall has a website that talks about attractions and business on the town. Contact the person in charge and ask them to link back to your site. Also the same goes for any local government website that may have any relation with your business.

Business association, nonprofit organizations, the local library, etc.

Getting these links it is not always easy, but again it is not impossible, you just need to remember, that one link from a good Authority site, will help you to increase the PR of your own site.

Remember: Increasing your PR it is a long process and it should be a long term priority for your web marketing strategy.

I know that potentially you will have the following question.

So what is the relation between PR and Traffic?

Let’s see another of my examples.

Example No 2 About Google Juice .

Well, the same relation there is between an

Art Nouveau Film nominee to the Cannes Festival and a Summer Teen Hit movie.

vs

Both of them are movies, for sure the Cannes Festival is a “better” movie, under cinema experts standards. The ironic thing is that the Summer Teen Hit movie, generates more buzz and more visitors.

The quality of the Cannes Festival movie, for sure is higher, but that doesn’t mean it will make a lot of money on the opening night. Just think of the list of the Top 100 Movies of all times, and check how many have you seen. If you are like me, many of them are not on your personal list, simply because they are too old and too boring.

The Cannes Festival Movie has a high Google PR , but not a lot of Visitors.

The Summer Teen Hit Movie, has little Google PR, but a constant amount of Visitors.

What I’m trying to say is that you don’t need PR to get visitors… and in the mean time that you build your PR, you need to start capturing traffic by understanding how people search and what people want.

Believe it or not there are many websites out there with very high PR that simply get little or no traffic.

In the next post, we are going to take a look directly at the way you built your site, and we are going to understand what Google really wants from your overall website. This is for sure one of the most revealing post you will get and in that way we are going to start working towards better traffic.
